Thousands of souls surround me,
Never laid to rest, for I stand as,
The only living one here.
I strike my match,
For I light the fires,
To tribute the fallen.

Standing in this now barren land,
The rain that falls is the tears of many,
Who wail but are not heard.
Though I cannot go back, I rue,
Even that strength,
Was never enough.

This, not the pain of wounds I cry for,
But for youth that still wait,
Anticipate,
Those who will never return.
Torn apart by grief,
That I could not save you.

With a shattered heart,
I dream of better yesterdays,
The spirits who loved,
The hands that fought.
Now lie for eternity,
On A Silent Battlefield.
