After the Snow

At the eye doctor, I’ve seen such beautiful blobs of light.

People refracting and impacting the frigid space,

Could not replace a single masterpiece,

give me color or give me peace, I can’t have both.

I love you the most but not at home, at the eye doctor

when all you are is light,

when all I can see is you,

When colors dance around the room

and the room is reflected in your eyes.

That’s when I took off my disguise

and you saw me for the first time

in the light. The colors from my eyes.

The green river surrounded by muddy banks.

The black marble stirring.

A hint of red because like I said

I don’t hold back.

I would never attack anything but words.

I don’t ask to be heard

but still you listen.

Snowflakes glisten at the windows.

Looking at me as the wind blows.

People like me will come and go

but it’s in our eyes that remain after the snow.

I wrote this while at the eye doctor. My contacts were out and I found it so strange how people morphed into blobs of light.
