I Miss You
I miss you
I miss you.
I miss the way your fingers gently pressed into my back when we hugged.
I miss the stubble that scratched my face when you kissed my cheek.
I miss the smell of your favorite cologne lingering on your shirt.
I miss the cheesy texts telling me how much you loved me.
I miss the voicemails in which you announced who you were, even though I already knew.
But you were the ticking time bomb with a warm smile.
And when you exploded, you took all of us with you.

This piece is about my grandfather who passed away on August 31st of 2020. We were very close, and his death truly shook my world and made me feel things I didn't think I could feel. While this poem is very simple and minimalistic, sometimes I find it easier for me to say how I'm feeling rather than overcomplicate it with analogies or other literary devices. This poem is just about how much I miss him. I don't need to make it pretty, because there is nothing pretty about losing someone you love so deeply.
