Your Back
This morning I watched you
sneak out the window with
silent lips and a spellbound
heart.
If time were static,
I would pause it just before
you left. I would watch the
way the breeze painted waves
in your class t-shirt.
I have noticed
that you walk like a gymnast
but you love like a poet.
Your touch radiates a quiet intention,
unfading and ceaseless
like the rolling sea.
There is nothing more beautiful
than watching your back
as you slip out of my bedroom.
I no longer need
the affirmation of your eyes
to tell me that you will always return.
