You hide in the shadows of my mind

Behind my happy memories

And faded polaroids

Amongst coffee-stained notebooks.

You are a distant dream now

But as soon as you leave me

I always bring you back

Like a violent wave,

Reminding me of what we were

And what we could have been.

You crash over my head

And just like that,

I’m drowning again

Because regret is a silent bandit

Those handcuffs

Rub your skin red

Until the blisters

Become scars

And you can no longer forget

The chance you missed

And the light you lost.
