Swimming Lessons
Brainless power of the mind
Pulsating from ear to ear
Because not all who swim, learn how to sink.
Deeper, darker, fear that is instilled
The skull shattered, the skin broken
Because not all who sink, got the chance to swim.
Paddling and pushing, to depths of new memory
New faces, new air, new places, new desires
Because not all who swim, learn how to sink.
Fighting to grow stronger, to thrive on the green
Discovering new beginnings, every chance you’ve been given to dream
Because not all who sink, got the chance to swim.
Eyes peeking atop the thick, crystal waves of blue
A smile plastered on the face that didn't know anything better
Because not all who sink, got the chance to swim.

This piece was inspired by the challenges I've faced during my childhood. The idea stemmed from how not all people are created the same, and how everyone has gone through different experiences that influence their lives in ways others simply can't relate to. The meaning of the poem is more left up to the reader, and how they feel about the refrain and how it makes them feel.
