Fixation on Mind and Bone
A person gets fixated on a subject.
They work that subject in their mind
until there is nothing left to ponder about,
and stash it deep inside.
A dog gets fixated on a bone.
They work that bone in their mouth
until there is no flavor left to taste,
and bury it deep underground.

My name is Coleman and I am at the time of posting this a senior attending San Lorenzo Valley High School. I originally wrote this poem as part of a homework assignment, which asked to write a poem comparing a complex subject to a more simple one. At the time, I had been thinking about how often I get fixated, and obsessed with a subject or object, such as a movie or video game, and then a few months later I lose interest and move on to other things. I used that for the inspiration for my poem, comparing my own fixation, to a dogs fixation on a bone.
