I am from a background,

From acts of kindness and helpful hands.

I am from a big family

From an understanding family.

I am the oldest,

Whose responsibility are the greatest,

From day one.

I am from the big grey house,

From the soaring train every two hours.  

I am from the hands of learning,

And the perfectionists

From activities to tests.

I am from a loving family

With open arms

And helpful hands.

I am from a background of Italy,

Where my relatives grew and learned.

From the teachings of my ancestors

I learn,

The teachings that make me stronger,

When I was younger I heard stories,

Stories after stories, in my grandmother's house,

Of how my family came over,

To America, the land of dreams.

I am from this background

I am determined

Like my family was before me.
