Forget
Ma’ma used to say that love is supposed to make you happy,
Ma’ma also used to say that she loved daddy,
I guess she forgot what the word love meant.
Daddy used to say not to use drugs,
Daddy also used to say use your words and not hit,
But I guess daddy forgot when he and mommy used to fight.
Ma’ma used to say that if a man hit you, leave right away,
I guess she just forgot for 12 years that she said that.
Grandma said to go to church and never swear,
Grandma also used to say, you should love all,
But I guess she forgets when we talk about politics.
Teachers tell us about people who stood up for things and that we could do the same,
Teachers also say to sit down in class and be quiet,
I guess they forgot that sit and stand are opposite.
I say that everyone should be treated the same, that you shouldn’t hate anyone you don’t fully understand,
I also say we don’t fully understand anyone.
I just hope I don’t forget.
