I felt the lightning strike that night
it sounded like a violin
some sort of palpitation of the heart
a painted-on note never intended

my hands were awful shaky when
I heard your voice crack
and my eyes pinpointed yours so you could read pain directly from the source
I want you to hold my heart breaking
I want you to feel the pulse
I would compare it to thunder
You'd tell me it's not that strong
I'm only a whimper after all
I'm only an afterthought

you see the lightning before anything is heard
I saw your distance before anything was heard
more light than heat
more light than heat
no meaning behind your words

The author's comments:

I just kinda wrote this after helping a friend through a difficult time. The line "more light than heat" from Hamlet was stuck in my head. It was storming. A culmination of all of that produced this.
