lost on friday morning
there’s something about sunrises, car rides and songs with good baselines that just goes together
with my mother
and my brother
the sun golden up ahead
our faces, the houses surrounding us, the trees in the park and every little thing under this morning's sky, was soaked in the glow of a new day beginning
my favorite song was playing
and i thought to myself,
what a beautiful moment
and i couldn’t wait
until i had my own car
and i could do this every morning by myself
and i could sing at the top of my lungs
i pictured it all in extraordinary detail
and then the song ended and it was time for me to go to school
and i had spent my beautiful moment thinking about how one day the moments would be more beautiful
i was too distracted by the future
i couldn’t even sing my favorite song
