E-N-V-Why?

Observe envy in its natural habitat

It feasts shrewdly on happiness

Hunts in the dark like a bat

Envy, with such ghastliness

Spreads its wings over our conscience

And swallows it whole

It creeps by, rambling nuisance

About others’ like a mole

Camouflaged like an owl

It flies past unnoticed

With a sickening howl

Someday, envy will change

It will grow

It shall lose the V for venomous

And Y for wickedly

It grows a C-O-N-T

And another T for a tail

Now made by 7

Naturally selected and

Bred into a

More mature word

Someday, all the

ENVY

Will evolve,

And become:

CONTENT

The author's comments:

It is human nature to want what others have around us. There is a natural presence of envy. Yet there is hope that one-day society as a whole will find ways to be content with what they have. After all, the happiest people do not have the best of everything, they make the best of everything they have! I hope this inspires people to evolve to become the most accepting and fulfilled version of themselves.
