The numbing ocean of abandonment

Overflowing with lies and broken trust

Promising its waters will keep you afloat

But then like a desert it dries up to dust

Leaving you alone in its vast landscape

Wondering how it could have vanished so soon

Although I will miss its blissful blue current

I must now walk amongst the dunes

So over the soft swift sand I travel

My thoughts whispering secrets of hope

That one day i’ll see your face again

As I reach the peak of a slope

But as the days go by the nights grow colder

A lesson of heartbreak I must learn

Turns out it’s one that you taught me

When I realized you’d never return

From times filled with sweet giggles

or those of streaming salty tears

To the smoky aroma filling the room

As I blow out my candles each year

While the flame dies I close my eyes

And only want for one thing to be true

I wish and I wish with my whole heart

That one day I am enough for you

And the painful cycle continues

But still my hope remains.
