My Name
My sister got to name me,
And thank god I’m a boy
Because I would’ve been “Flower” otherwise.
Instead of a noun,
I am instead named after the kind boy,
Who sat next to my sister on the school bus.
While I am always referred to as Jacob,
Or Jake or “snot” in my sister’s case,
I’ve always taken to my last name better.
“Stolberg” A strong and sturdy name, as my grandfather likes to say.
I’ve used my last name to stake a place for myself,
Kinda had to with Jacob being a most popular name since 1999
it’s been since high school where I really adopted my last name,
Keeping the signature flair, or “Scribble”
And however messy it may be, I am proud of that scribble
