The Eternal Struggle of the Living
Outlying on the front porch,
I close my eyes.
Sodden in tears,
Congregating in cries.
Adjacent they stand,
Two racers on a line.
Readily prepared,
With ambitious eyes.
Adjacent they stand,
Heart and mind.
Off they go,
A tale for time.
Heart takes the lead,
Driven by passion,
But never goes far,
Before it fizzles and dies.
Taking the wheel,
Mind pulls me back.
Steering away from lies,
And furthermore cries.
As far as the story goes,
Mind always wins,
But sometimes Heart wonders,
Oh, what could have been?
