The Secret Life of Soriah H.
I am from shea moisture, broken hair ties, and American Girl Dolls.
I am from the mulch in the front yard, (Brown, dirty, it tasted like wood.)
I am from the orchids, the red roses, which rise from the dirt.
I am from the, “What are you thankful for” Thanksgiving dinners and big plump lips, from Bertilia and Lydia and Anjolie.
I am from the I’m always right and the you’re always wrong,
From sitting too close to the T.V will ruin your eyesight and if you swallow your gum, it will stay in your stomach for seven years,
I am from Christmas masses, filled with holiday cheers and carols.
I am from New Orleans and Dominica, fried chicken and watermelon.
From the how my mom and dad met stories, and the day my grandma beat cancer.
I am from a closet in my room filled with joyful forgotten faces to be noticed. I am from a loving, kind-hearted family in which there memories will be protected forever in my heart.
