A Great Distance to Travel

Wandering home along the path

A wife as beautiful as the forest waiting for him

Near, yet so far away

Down by the water she rests

Engrossed in her own world

Reality is unknown

In her arms a majestic swan rests

Nurturing the swan’s pain with her own

They cry alone, and yet they’re together

One human, one swan

Tears stream down her face

Her sister has been left alone

Empty without her sister there

As long as she’s human she will be lost

Recently she has been grieving

More and more often she returns to the river

Sisters in blood and yet different species

One night she cries out in her sleep

Finally, a decision had been made in his mind

Sadly, he must say goodbye

Out the window his wish dances in the wind

Moments later she is no longer human

Elated once she is placed in the water

Only true love can prevail this difference

Neither will change their true forms

Ever faithful he will live on

Your first two wishes were wasted

Only one left to spare

Until the day he dies, he will save his last wish

Little did anyone know he would stay content

One late autumn evening people passing heard a woeful song

Voicing their sadness the swans will sing

Empty home, lonesome swans
