Blame the White Man
I hear them say
That they will have their day,
That the white man will pay.
But when will they see,
When will they find,
The trouble they inflict on their own kind?
It's so easy for them to blame
A person, a group, an entire race
When daily they
slaughter and maim,
When daily they
exploit and abuse,
When daily they
take and misuse,
When daily they
fail to save face.
I hear them say
That they will have their day,
That the white man will pay.
But when will they realize
That they don't have to terrorize
Their neighborhoods day and night,
That don't have to vandalize
The streets on which they reside
In order to survive?
And when will they realize
That they shouldn't glamorize
The heinous thug life,
That they shouldn't marginalize
The many issues of their side,
Or capitalize
On the mistakes of their times?
I hear them say
That they will have their day,
That the white man will pay.
But I wonder
When will they treat him
Like their brother?

Although the issues of gang violence, substance abuse, welfare fraud, and many more are not exclusive to one race, I feel that they are rampant among Black America, especially in the poorer communities. Instead of trying to fix their problems and better their lives, they continue to blame white people for their poor choices. If they put forth the effort, they could vastly improve their lives, but they're too fixated on getting revenge on and reparations from people who had nothing to do with the slave trade. This is something that I, a black female, have observed for years through family and especially the news.
