Bosna, Moja Domovina (Bosnia, My Home)
I smelled the fresh air
I looked at the trees
I laughed at the sky
It was extraordinary
Returning home
What is home?
What is warmth?
What is comfort?
I know what it is.
I felt it there.
My heart could travel thousands of miles to see you
My eyes were not disappointed
There was never anything as beautiful as you.
Those years are gone
1992...1993...1994...1995
There are no more bullets in your wings
No more blood on your grass lands
No more screams of children
No more shells destroying you
I returned.
I finally returned.
I saw Sarajevo
I saw Tuzla
I saw Mostar
I saw the pigeons soaring through the sky
I heard the sound of the adhan coming from the Gazi Husrev Beg Mosque
I heard the church bells ringing from the Sacred Heart Cathedral
I heard the gentle stream flowing through the rocks in Vrelo Bosne
I tasted kinder bueno ice cream
My mouth devoured baklava
This is what I wanted
This is what all your inhabitants wanted
No war
No murder
No rape
They wanted your mountains
Your valleys
Your bridges
Your castles
Your sweet water
They wanted peace like back in the days
They wanted the life that was once taken from them
They wanted hope that comes with the light of the sun shining over your green hills
They wanted Bosnia.
I wanted it too.
Bosnia is my home
I longed for home, I wished for it.
God heard me.
He heard my wish.
And granted it.
