Classified

The first fame,
All that you have asked for
In advertisements across the continent;
And you still didn’t know
why plastic casings disclose their contents
to scissors only.

I’d see this all as allegory
For the forests we’ve undone together
Running up and down bedroom walls,
Coursing through faint landscapes before and then
To flag down various taxis from the afterlife,
A fine frost of intimacy spreading along our hands.

We said tangential things next to the end,
I felt forthcoming desires in neon colors
From your mouth to the world,
Nearing extinction and back again,
But you would forget to ask for mine –
Lists say you belong to the earth once more.
