Free Tickets!
It was like no other day in Disney World, 2010.
We saw a man, chirpy as could be
Approach us and say,
“Want two Toy Story ride tickets, for free?”
We thanked him kindly though we had an issue
There were four of us, and two tickets for the ride.
I was so gloomy, I almost died.
“Who will go on the ride?” I asked in wonder.
Just then my dad stepped up
“Kelly, Caleb, you can go, me and Raye will stay back.”
He bellowed with a grin.
My smile was fake like a rubbery snake
I was heartbroken.
“So Raye, what do you want to do today?”
My dad asked with luminous eyes and a gargantuan smile.
We ambled around until we saw something breathtaking.
Something extraordinary to make our day so much better: ICE CREAM!
My dad and I bolted at the speed of light, my smile beamed.
A man standing behind a small, white box
It read “Ice Cream” on the front.
The man smiled as children walked by with parents and yelled
“Mommy, I want ice cream!”
“What would you like?” the ice cream man questioned.
He was a tan abominable snowman, handing out arctic treats that said:
“Oh PLEASE won’t you eat me?”
We bought a brown Mickey shaped fudge pop
Sat on a clean, plastic blue bench, and had a Mickey shrub as our backdrop.
I guzzled my ice cream rapidly
Making sure every piece of it got in my mouth.
The sun was a blistering, sticky beams of light
It made my face a moist swimming pool.
I was a starving lion
When I devoured my prey, it was like the last food on earth.
My dad eyeballed me, blissful as could be
“Are you having fun baby?”
Smiling with delight,
I demolished what was left of the drizzly, melted Mickey bar.
Tick, tock, tick, tock.
My dad and I sat on the dry, plastic bench
We waited forever until Caleb and my mom showed up!
I didn’t really know it then but I learned something that day.
When things don’t go your way,
Get some ice cream, then everything will all be okay!
