Hearth and Home

You built me
Refined me
Now I breath life into our days
Illuminating our home during the darkest nights
Warming you during the most frigid winters

We live together in this harmony
Forever relying on each other
Our existence a perpetual eden
A dream with no end in sight

Eventually you wither
And have trouble stocking my flames
The dream begins to melt
Slowly grounding itself in reality

Eventually you leave me
Left alone in our dream turned sour
Loneliness becomes my new companion
Only memories left to keep me company
During the cold winters
And long nights

The author's comments:

My creative writing teacher brought us to the oldest building in our towns history and asked us to write from an items perspective in the house. I saw the fire place and thought "I can make somehting sweet out of that." So, I tried my best and created a poem I fairly proud of. I hope that others will enjoy it as well. That is, if I get published.
