When Will It Begin
Apprehension.
Peering into the future I ask myself,
Will I make it?
Constantly repeating, never changing, it seems like the same thing everyday: school, homework, practice, bed.
When will life really begin?
Junior year is here and early on-set senioritis has begun.
It all seemed so far away, and now we are living it.
All the things I've been looking forward to are happening now.
Things that I've been dreading are happening now too
Really thinking about it, college isn't too far away and there's so much to do before that first day.
Take the SAT, and ACT
Figure out what college is right for me
Keeping my grades up so those student loans don't build up
Visiting multiple campuses
Hoping for many acceptances
Choosing a major praying it won't be a failure
Moving in during welcome week
Being so nervous I forget how to speak
Preparing for college is just the beginning.
It's like a train, fast and exhilarating, who's only stop is labeled "Real World."
New experiences cause people to grow emotionally, physically, and mentally,
Making it the best or worst years of one's life.
College is now happening and there's so much going on; it'll be over in the blink of an eye.
Making friends with girls on my floor,
Cheering on the Butler Bulldogs when they score.
Gaining the Freshman 15 because is eating out every night really that bad for me?
Late nights.
City Lights.
Should I go Greek and become a member of a new clique?
This new internship is exhausting.
Who knew living far away from home could be so costing?
Finally graduation day is here!
The train has stopped, it's time to get off and go into the real world.
We thought college would be the worst of it, but boy were we wrong.
The real world is scary and hard and unfair.
We are no longer children, life is happening, and it's happening fast.
Wondering if I'm prepared.
Truthfully I'm really scared.
It's time for me to be independent, but being sure I take someone's hand, if they lend it.
Staring a big girl occupation,
This real world stuff is causing a lot of frustration.
Getting married and having a spouse eventually thinking about having kids to fill the house.
Soccer mom? That's okay with me!
Anyways who needs that masters degree?
Tranquility.
Reminiscing I realize,
I made it.
My life is complete and in full swing.
Life is actually happening now, or maybe it has been happening all along.

This piece was inspired by my thoughts about college. I used it to think through my future and sort of come up with a plan for what I am going to do with my life.
