Your Choice
f you choose to love a broken girl, and
I think you’re on that path,
then you’ll also love the splintered shards
that come with shattered glass.
If you choose to love the phantom friend,
step softly where you go.
She’s scared of now, not of the end:
she’s known that way of woe.
If you choose to love a war-torn soul, though
it’s not safe to do--
then the fraying soul, with all
she has, will try her best for you.
If you choose to love a burnt-out match, don’t
startle when she flees.
She’s watched this world blaze down to ash
when no one heard her pleas.
If you choose to love a broken girl, then
make that haven last.
And if you choose to love this fragile soul,
prepare to bear her past.
