Making Fun Out of Nothing At All
Bed sheets, kitchen chairs, and clothes pins
Were the only materials we needed
To make a fort.
Sidewalk chalk gave us a day to
Color the driveway.
Legos let us build
Cars, towers, and dinosaurs,
For weeks.
Whether we used baseball cards, the queen of spades,
Or our motor mouths
Our bikes were never just bikes.
They were motorcycles.
All we needed were some plastic toy guns
To have a shootout.
Take the guns away and we’d have
A wrestling match.
Fun was simplified.
Simple was fun,
Just as long as we didn’t fall
Off the couch into the lava.
