I am not useless

I am not useless

I may be a sixteen year old
Failing Highschooler,
With nothing to show in life,
But I am not useless

I might not be able to properly write a letter,
Recite the Gettysburg address.
Ich kann kein deutsch,
Write the quadratic formula
But I am not useless

I may not be able to shoot a basket like Jordan,
Throw a pass like Rodgers,
Or catch a touchdown like Cobb.
But I am not useless.

At home I am told,
That I do nothing.
That all I do is eat
And make my room a mess.

I may not be able to succeed in school,
Rock a sport,
Or cook for the family.
But I am not useless

Because the last time I checked,
At sixteen,
I make more money than my mother.
She still owes me five hundred dollars for a bill.

I may not be able to do most things
But there are two things I am good at
Sandwich making
And Teaching.

At my work I am required
To make a sandwich in less than thirty seconds
I have to stay freaky fast to keep up with my co workers
And I am good at it
I can read that entire menu board in less than three minutes
Even if I am miles away

I can tell you where every meat is located on the cold table
How to work the headsets for the drive thru
And I even know how to access the screen only the managers are allowed to see.

And teaching
You tell me what to teach and I can teach it to anyone.
In all the classes I take the only one I am passing
Is the one where I go to an elementary school to teach.
I cannot wait until the day
Where I will be at the head of a class
Teaching the young minds of the future

So I know if I capitalize on my strengths
I can still be successful
I can prove to everyone
I am useful
