Paper Cranes
Thirty-some cranes hang from my ceiling,
and a hundred more in bags, just waiting.
I fold them when I find I am sad,
overwhelmed, stressed, or mad.
Something about the rhythmic motions
of folding the paper soothes my emotions
It starts with the origami bird base.
After that everything begins to fall into place.
Just a few inside revere folds,
and then, into a crane, the paper molds.
This process is so familiar to me,
that to do it, I don't even have to see.
The paper crane lies close to my heart;
I hope we never have to be apart.
