Afraid To Dream
Here's something you don't know about me;
I'm afraid to dream.
Yet I dream of climbing the tallest tree,
To feel the wind in my hair and just breathe.
I dream of that distant finish line,
Making each accomplishment mine.
Fears resonate within as well.
Ones that make the warm tears swell.
I fear "The Ultimate Game";
The one in which Death calls my name.
I fear what is to come,
But most of all what I will become.
Taking a risk has never been my thing.
I prefer to hold onto every strand and string.
But now, Red is all I see.
Due to people walking all over me.
So often do I long to be free.
To take a breath and climb the tree.
