Honesty
Behind their smiles,
Behind their laughter,
There’s always something,
It makes you falter.
A sadness, a dark
It makes you feel faint,
After a slow moment, you understand,
And another makes you wait.
You glance up at your “friend”,
What you expect to find can’t be found,
Instead, you find an imposter,
You can’t look away, you feel bound.
Then you hear a small voice,
The name of the faker,
The name makes you fear,
It makes you feel shaker.
The name of the beast is like no other,
It sounds dark and hopeless, the name is Lies,
But strangely it doesn’t break you,
Instead, you slowly open your eyes.
You realize you are better off,
You shouldn’t feel bound,
Without them, you won’t be lost,
But instead, you will be crowned.
You’ll feel more free,
Less burdened and pesky,
Learn to love yourself,
Your feelings will feel less messy.

I wrote this when I was in middle school, as I saw how fake friends hurt the people around me.
