Outline of Woman
You know about our angles and curves,
acrylic nails, birth control,
lash extensions, and hair appointments.
They’ll tell you we were crazy
but we weren’t really.
We had our reasons
for being like that.
We put two and two together,
somehow getting five.
We watched snap scores
and borrowed Instagram passwords.
Just to see another person's likes.
Okay maybe we were a tad crazy.
But at least some of us knew.
Our bodies were taken for granted.
With the touch of others
in places only we’ve felt.
We were posted on social media
to be mocked and ogled at.
And some of us didn’t live through it.
But those of us who made it aren’t looking back.
We made a world for ourselves
a world where we can admire one another.
Our talents, manic dreams, and languages.
We were beautiful.
Bodies made for creating and nurturing life.
The outline of woman
was not fixed.
The outline of woman
was infinitely changing.
For our world to see.
