I was sitting in my classroom with not a worry on my mind

Until I heard a BANG! BANG! Which made everything in my world go blind

We looked around and wondered if this was drill

Then I heard a loud scream and a shrill

My teacher’s eyes were filled with fear

But she soon snapped into gear

We crammed into a closet as silent as a mouse

I knew my school where I grew up will soon be a slaughterhouse

The only thing I could do was cross my fingers and pray 

Because everything around me was starting to go astray

I wondered about which of my friends I will lose 

Thanks to a man whose gun rights he abused

I received a text from my mom saying “Are you okay?”

All I could say is “I love you and I hope to see you another day” 

My heart was at ease when I heard the sirens near

I only hoped that my fear would soon disappear

I texted my friend to see if she was ok

She never responded which lead me in dismay

We finally got word the coast was cleared

Emotions came over me as a felt a tear

As I walked outside to look for my friend

Come to find out that her life came to an end

As I looked around I knew not what to do 

This was a nightmare that did come true
