Day of Happiness

Happiness is defined as feeling or showing pleasure or contentment, but for me, I describe it as the second Saturday of July. That day gave me a greater appreciation of horses. I already knew horse were amazing, majestic creatures but seeing them for the first time in real life was so inspiring. That day is a day I will always remember and cherish. That day gave me pure happiness.

Horses have always been a fascination to me. Ever since I was little the only kind of television shows or movies I would ever want to watch had to be about them. I loved how free and graceful they looked when they were running. It was something my grandpa and I had in common. We both admired them and all their beauty. Grandpa used to tell me all kinds of interesting facts and stories about horses. One of the facts I remember him telling me was how they use their ears, eyes, and nostrils to express their mood. They also communicate their feelings through facial expressions.

Growing up I lived in the city. There aren't any places in the city for horses or farms to put horses on. I never got to see a horse in person, until that July. Grandpa drove over to my house in Saturday morning and told me he had a surprise for me. I was still in my pajamas so he told me to get dressed. I put on some blue jeans, a t-shirt, and my boots. When I walked outside grandpa handed me a cowgirl hat and told me to hop in the truck because we were going on a little road trip.

We drove for about two hours all the while I was so excited, yet nervous to see where he was taking me. I tried to ask him what we were doing or where we were going but the harder I tried the more he would change the subject. He insisted on keeping it a secret.

When we finally arrived I was instantly thrilled. I could already see my favorite animals’ right there outside my window as we pulled into a ranch. I got out and could not stop smiling. I almost cried I was so happy. This was the most amazing thing anyone had ever done for me.

A man that worked on the ranch took grandpa and I on a path that led us to some stables where all the horses were kept. We talked about each and every one of the horse and i met them all. Then the man asked me if I wanted to ride Daisy, one of the horses I had just met. She was so big. She was brown with white spots and a long beautiful mane. I said yes and he went and got her out of the stables.

I rode Daisy all around the ranch. The man got himself a horse and let grandpa ride one of his own. We all went on a trail ride and saw so many different types of horses. There were short ones, tall ones, big ones, and skinny ones. Some were different colored than others. I learned about almost all of the horse that were there that day. It was probably my favorite day ever.

I learned a lot that Saturday in July, everything and anything you could know or think of horses. I feel like Grandpa and I have an even closer bond now. When I grow up I want to own a horse ranch. That way I can work with horses every single day. Without that day I probably wouldn't ever know what that kind of happiness felt like.
