Walking with my Faith
My oldest sister, Annie Boone, was diagnosed with Colon Cancer around the end of 2012. Colon Cancer is cancer of the Colon and/or Rectum. It may begin as noncancerous polyps. Cancer is one the hardest battles you will ever face or watch someone face. Annie was my oldest sister. She treated me like I was her baby. She carried me around, took pictures of me, gave me baths, and took care of me.
In January, Annie started treatments. The chemotherapy made her very sick. My two daughters went for a week to her house, in Washington, North Carolina, to spend time with her. At that point, she was not that bad. She could get up and down, they said. About two or three weeks later, things were not looking good! We all went back down to spend time with her. By this time she was pretty much bedridden. They had already called in Hospice.
Two days passed, in which things became progressively worse.
My mother was sitting in there with her oldest daughter, who was slowly dying. She fanned my sister and talked to her, even though Annie wasn’t able to talk back. Mom came out and asked me to go sit with her, while she went outside to get some fresh air. The first thing I did was walked over and fanned her. I fanned her for around fifteen minutes. Then I sat down at the foot of her bed and started reading “Heaven Is For Real”. My sister only had a few hours left to live when the wheezing started. The dying process had started.
I looked up from my book, and I saw a figure of a man standing over her. He was wearing what looked like a robe and a purple stole- like thing draping over his shoulders. I thought I knew who this was but how could this be? I rubbed my eyes and that was the moment “Jesus” spoke to me. He turned around with his back toward my sister; and said to me “ If you have anything else to say, go ahead and say it, I’m getting ready to take her.” At that point, I hear the door shut so I assume its Mama. I tell her I’m going to take a walk. I didn’t tell anybody what I just witnessed. By the time I got back from my walk, the preacher had arrived to pray with Annie and our family. Only Annie’s husband and daughter were in the room. The family continued to pray and not even five minutes later, Annie looks up at her husband and smiles. Right after that is when she takes her last breath. The preacher comes out to tell the rest of the family, she has passed.
I didn’t tell anybody until we were on the way home. I saw Jesus standing on the side of the road, sitting in the car with me, in my house. I saw him everywhere! I guess he thought my faith needed some strengthening.
