A Teenage Girl's Dream

There is a teenage girl named Alicia who enjoys playing soccer ever since she was three years old. All she can think about is soccer and how she would love to play professionally. Never does she want to think about something else and when her friends ask her if she would like to go play at the park for a while she would say yes right away. She always has on her mind that her parents will support her no matter what but her hopes came down because there came a day when her parents said she is not allowed to play anymore after realizing that it was a dangerous sport to play.
Alicia enjoys playing soccer so much she could never get tired of it. Ever since she was three years old, her parents put her in a team that her cousin, Mary, joined as well. Alicia never paid much attention to the sport because, of course, she was young. Once she started getting older, her thoughts about soccer changed. She realized how interesting that sport was and she could to stop playing it because almost every time she played, she learned a new skill which she enjoyed. Alicia and Mary would learn tricks from Mary's dad, Jose, as they grew older. Jose would tell them, "Hold the ball with your foot bent towards you to sustain it well and keep good track of it," so they did as they were told and obviously in the beginning they were not as good though they did her better throughout the times they would practice. Alicia's parents would go to every game she had when she was young and saw a really big improvement in her work. She got faster at running and she was only seven after time passed by. Even after the games, Alicia and Mary would go home and play more in the backyard because they never seemed to get tired. On the weekends, Jose would tell them, "Today we'll learn something new, though it can be difficult." They grabbed the balls and began doing what they already knew then would head on to the more difficult steps such as trying to juggle. Mary would have a hard time trying to sustain the ball in her position while picking it up with her foot because she would lose it in an instant. As for Alicia, she grabbed the ball with her foot and concentrated so well on the way she had her balance then began to juggle as many times as she could. Mary was upset that Alicia could handle it quickly and Jose was impressed how she could learn so fast and be great at it as well. The next morning on a Wednesday, they had a game and everyone in the crowd including Jose was shocked by the way Alicia was playing. She had the ball going towards the goal and the opponent was trying to block her by getting in front when suddenly Alicia picked up the ball to juggle it in order to get it over the defense and she took a shot and scored. Everyone was very proud of her skills and could not see any better from a severe year old.
Alicia is now a teenager and still does not give up on soccer. She always does great in school and her parents are proud of her for that since not very people can handle school and sports at the same time. Alicia is a senior in high school and plays for her school and for a club. On a Friday night when it was warm with the moon shining so bright, Alicia's school team was going to have a game. She is impressed by looking at the huge stadium which is full of lighting that made the field look bright. The grass looked perfect green and soft to play on which is one out of the many things Alicia loves. They soon begin their game and she feels nervous because it is the championship. They did great in the first half, especially Alicia. The second half was not so great because one of her teammates got seriously injured. The opponent went towards the teammate because she had the ball, so the opponent decided to slide tackle to take the ball away from her. When she did that, she completely missed the ball and hit the teammate instead. She landed straight on the ground, but she did not land safely. Her arm was in the way when she fell and when the referee blew the whistle everyone stopped and looked at her. She was yelling extremely loud in pain and she was not able to control it. Alicia runs towards her and realizes that her arm is dislocated. She was in shock and could not believe what had happened because never has she seen something so serious like that. She soon hears the sirens of the ambulance and could see the red and blue lights of the truck. The paramedics take her to the hospital in an instant. The game goes on, but she could not focus so well on what she was doing. The ball is passed towards her and she takes a quick glance at the time and realizes there is only a couple seconds left. She does the tricks she learned ever since she was little and takes a hard and strong shot and scores. Everyone in her team and the crowd is excited for their winning. She is happy, though upset in the inside because of her friend. Alicia and her parents left to the hospital to see how her teammate is doing and once Alicia saw she was doing better she felt better as well, but the next day it all turns into a nightmare.
Alicia wakes up on a bright early morning receiving a phone call from a coach from Spain. The coach speaks to her and says, "Hello Alicia. This is Alex, the coach from a professional league in Spain." Alicia did not believe what he was saying, she is in shock. He then says, "I would love to have you in my team so I was wondering if you would like to tryout out in three days." As soon as he said that, Alicia became speechless and felt butterflies in her stomach. Never has she received such great news like that one. She tells Alex she will talk to her parents and she will give him a call back. Alicia happily goes downstairs and tells her parents to sit down on the couch because she has great news. She tells them, "Alex called me asking me if I wanted to try out for a professional team he had in Spain. He's their coach and he also said it was going to be in three days. Will you guys please let me go?" Her parents look at one another and they did not seem as excited as she expected. Alicia's smile fades away in an instant. Her mom replies, "Alicia, you won't be able to go because you're not going to be playing anymore." Alicia could feel her heart beats slowing down and the butterflies that she felt were fading away. She could not believe the answer she got since she expected to hear a "Yes!" rather than a "No." and especially "You won't be playing anymore." She takes a while to ask the reason why she is not allowed to play any longer, but she does it. Her dad answers explaining to her why she could not play which is because of what happened to her teammate the night before. Her mom then gets into the conversation telling her that it is way too dangerous, but they just never realized it. Alicia asks them angrily why in the world they would realize now that soccer is a dangerous sport. Her dad suddenly says, "We don't want you getting hurt the way your friend did or even worse. Besides, Spain is so many hours away and that won't be the only place you'll be traveling to. You're putting your life at risk." Alicia begins to tear up then after a couple seconds those tears were running down her cheeks and she felt a knot in her throat as if feeling sick. With nothing to say, she walks away crying when her parents yell her name out to come back, but she keeps on walking. Her parents feel upset for telling her that, but it is for the best. Alicia goes to school not talking to anyone and once she gets home she locks herself in her room and begins to burst into tears.
Two days later, her parents walk into her room giving her the phone. She asked why were they doing that and her dad replies, "Call Alex and let him know you'll be at the airport later at night when they take off." She could not believe what he had just told her, but she is so excited she snatches the phone from him and dials Alex to give him the good news. Alicia hugs her parents and could not be any happier. Alicia's parents realize that soccer is her passion and they did not have the right to destroy her dreams. They knew ever since she was little she always said she wanted to travel far away to play in a professional league and her dream suddenly came true. At the airport, her parents tell her that she needs to stay in touch with them every day and to take good care and try her hardest because she will make it far. They receive a call from her a couple days later to receive the great news that she made the team. Her parents yell with joy. They realized that even though life itself is a risk, the dreams someone have had to be done without anyone getting in the way.

The author's comments:
The reason I wrote this fiction story is because I enjoy soccer very much and I would love to play out in Europe or some famous country. I thought in my mind that my parents would not let me go out too far because they would be too afraid. Towards the end I knew that they would understand since they know I really enjoy this sport, so I ended it with a happy ending.
