Ember
Yelling, seems to be all we do

My mom takes my cell phone and
walks down stairs to the kitchen
practically boiling over.
“Ember you can’t see this boy.
Understand me?”
“No mother in fact I don’t.
You just don’t understand because Dad left you,
you don’t know what it’s like to love,
and you won’t let me love Matt! Because you
are a jealous
b*t**!”
My mother’s jaw drops,
And it makes me the slightest bit happy that
I stuck it right back at her
But she takes that smile
away
as she comes over and
slaps me hard across the face.

I pull back my arm ready
to hit her back but she grabs it,
“You will never see this boy
again and I will make sure of it, and I
am taking your cell phone. Go to your
room while I think about your punishment. Go!”

This time it’s me that’s boiling hot
I stand my ground (I will not lose love)
“Stop it!”
I scream at the top of my
lungs.
My mother is yelling back at me
with
just the same amount of
energy as she stands
on the

opposite side of the
kitchen table.
I’m burning with rage
and my eyes are
G
N
I
L

I
F
to the brim with

tears.

I quickly

them away so my mom won’t see them
(tears are a sign weakness).
I want to hit her,
to scream at her,
to run out the door,
the door that has been holding me back for years,
not today I think.
“You’re not my mother anymore!” I yell at her
And before I walk out the door I am smart enough to snag my cell phone and my hoodie, containing my IPod and a couple of bucks.
To add affect
I slam it shut
behind me.
