Escapism
  Boulder by boulder, we made our ascent.
  Upward we shuffled, our hands and feet raw.
  Trying to escape the blinding white claw
  Of the lights below that shown, so ancient
  And though my body and mind were near spent
  My comrades strength refusing to withdraw
  Away from the ravaged cultural maw.
  Together we knew we could not relent.
  Our place of birth we attempt to forget
  The willowed winds erasing our history
  granting us our final freedom, burdens cast
  Like dice in the wind, drenched in nature's sweat
  Leaving the desserts of man a mystery.
  Perhaps, we were a better fit for the past.
