Blushes and flustered chuckles can’t fool me.
I anxiously listen to your stutters.
Your nervous eyes burn holes in the ground.
Is this it? Again I am filled with glee.
Your mouth then opens; my heart then flutters,
But nerves win again; you can’t make a sound.
Through your endless crusade I’ve remained strong,
But this cat-and-mouse game has gone on for too long.

Crushed hopes cross the days off my calendar,
And today’s date laughs at me for waiting.
I just swear that you will ask me later,
But disappointment’s what I’m creating.

So here’s a little hint: confidence is key.
Smile, and ask, “Will you go to prom with me?”
