I'm going to be a soldier
I'm going off to war
I'm going to go fight
until I can't fight no more

I'm going to be a soldier
Marching in a line
I'll shave my head and lose my name
but it'll be just fine

I'm going to be a soldier
the best there's ever been
I'm going somewhere I've never seen
with no option but to win

I'm going to be a soldier
I'm going to be strong
all I know is might makes right
there ain't no right or wrong

I'm going to be a soldier
with God on my side
I'll kneel down and pray to him
because I'm too young to die

I'm going to be a soldier
it's all I've ever known
They may give me medals
but the heroes don't come home

I'm going to be a soldier
I'm going off to war
I'm going off to fight and die
and not know what it's for

This isn't a blow against the armed forces, but against those who don't know what war is. I hoped to capture the naivety of a boy going off to war
