"For where God built a church, there the Devil would also build a chapel."
-Martin Luther

A seed that sleeps beneath the asphalt top;

Through cracks, awaken, struck by rays of Light.

These gaps collect the dew high heavens drop;

A sprout, new life,with purposes incite.

O Delicate sapling! What strength thine own?

Such small, sensitive twig, a stem so frail.

No might possessed, how’er not left alone;

Through mercy, o’er the fort’fied stone prevail.

Safe shrub, all feet and rigs are directed;

Compassion leads thy predators astray.

Harsh winds and storms, through kindness, reflected;

The sun’s scorch not, no wither nor decay.

Due time, there stands a solid old oak tree;

Yet still relies on th’grace of God to be.

The author's comments:
I was walking to Tim Hortans today, noticed little patches of grass and weeds that are growing through cracks in the sidewalk. This sonnet is also an extended metaphor: faith is the seed that relies on God to grow; even when its a full grown oak tree, it is still completly dependend on Gods Grace.

I love the language you used in this, and I love how you explained such a simple topic in such deep language. This is really good, some of the best I've seen on this site! Keep it up!
