"A guy walks up to me and asks 'What's Punk?'. So I kick over a garbage can and say 'That's punk!'. So he kicks over a garbage can and says 'That's Punk'?, and I say 'No that's trendy'!"- Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day

Subtlety’s never really been my thing
I’d rather leave it up to my dreams
I’m still wearing the same worn out chucks
I’m expecting the same dirty looks
If you want the truth, start listening
Because you’re the proof I’ve been missing

I’m repeating myself again
Because I’ve run out of words
The world’s finally catching up to me
Man, I’ve lived through worse

I heard your tone and started to panic
The walls went up, I just can’t stand it
You asked me what happened last October
Because the seasons changed and I got colder
Well that summer you spent on my mind
My thoughts drift back there every time

I’m repeating myself again
Because I’ve run out of words
The world’s finally catching up to me
Man, I’ve lived through worse

If you’re waiting in line don’t hold your breath
You’ll change your mind when I head west
And if we’re gonna hibernate for winter
I’ll wait for you in spring, I’ll wait for you in spring

I’m repeating myself again
Because I’ve run out of words
The world’s finally catching up to me
Man, I’ve lived through worse
The world’s finally catching up to us
Man, we’ve lived through worse

I salvaged some parts from "There's No Place in the Justice League for a Kid Like Me" in order to flesh out this song for Light the Atlantic. It's about having difficult conversations with people who aren't ready to talk.
