You Hold Me

When the restless darkness falls
Who will hold me?
When the ceaseless raindrops fall
Who will hold me?
When the tears drip down my cheeks
Who will hold me?
When whispers in the the silence speak
Who will hold me?

In the darkness
You are there
In the rain
You hold me
When I cry
You are there
In the silence
You hold me

When the earth crumbles and shakes
Who will hold me?
When the mountains quake
Who will hold me?
When the doubts creep in
Who will hold me?
When there's nothing within
Who will hold me?

When the earth shakes
You are there
When the mountains quake
You hold me
When the doubts come
You are there
When there seems nothing
You are holding me

Though my fingers slip
You hold me
Though my mind wanders
You hold me
Though my thoughts stray
You hold me
No matter where I am
You hold me

When the night is come
Will you hold me?
When I'm all undone
Will you hold me?
When I'm feeling lost and cold
Will you hold me?
When I'm trembling because I know
You hold me

In the night
You are there
I'm undone
You hold me
I am lost
You are there
I know
You hold me

Though my fingers slip
You hold me
Though my mind wanders
You hold me
Though my thoughts stray
You hold me
No matter where I am
You hold me

Father, hold me
You hold me
Father, hold me
I know you hold me
Hold me
For I cannot always see
Or understand
Cannot fathom
When the morning comes
Father, you hold me

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this after listening to Emiliana Torrini's cover of "Sound of Silence" and seeing one of my friend's old poems, and also by Audrey Assad. They combined to give me this song. It's me talking God and I realized that I'm really saying this strongly to him, and it gave me a kind of peace, to be able to say it like this, instead of struggling with complex thoughts. When I write things out, I understand myself a lot better.
