Let Earth unbalanced from her orbit fly / Planets and Suns run lawless through the sky.
An Essay on Man - Alexander Pope

She dreams inside the lines
But scribbles in the spaces left
She builds a sturdy wall
Protecting her from heartbreak theft
She knows that with a chance
The smallest thing could build her up
And break her down
So she sings without a sound
In the back of her mind
She's playing for a million ears
But she wouldn't say
It'd happen in a million years
She knows that with a chance
The smallest thing could eat her up
And spit her out
So she strums without a sound
--
Holes in her jeans, she sings
Teardrops on her cheeks, she sings
No one knows the path she's walked
Except her old six strings
Dirt on her shoes, she sings
Nothing left to lose, she sings
A past full of pain
That she's buried in the ground
Never to be found
She sings without a sound
--
She takes the backseat
Watching her chances get handed out for free
All alone, silently
Dreaming someone else's dream
She'll never take her chance
'Cause she's already broken down
She's broken down
By the silence of her sound
--
Holes in her jeans, she sings
A notebook full of dreams, she sings
Suppressed underneath the weight
Of what she's supposed to be
Bruises on her knees, she sings
Crying herself to sleep, she sings
Words she'll never speak
That she's buried in the ground
Never to be found
She sings without a sound.
