A Need for Change

He's married to his career.
He's got no time to call you, dear,
and she still thinks she stands a chance.
Another bad day at work,
he screams till his voice goes hoarse,
and she pretends to understand.
But he doesn't want to hear it,
even though she really cares.
She's always feared it,
the time when he's not there.
She needs him,
like a drug and she can't get clean,
and though he can get real mean,
she doesn't leave him.
She thinks she needs him.
