You sit in my pocket

Waiting for the next impulse buy.

Burning a hole in my pants

Just itching to lighten your load

One bad purchase at a time.

But you are always happy to oblige.

Excited to be out

Of the cotton prison

I call a pocket

But you call it home.

Without you, I am lost

unable to prove who I am.

Feeling incomplete,

Like an unfinished puzzle.

Worrying whenever I can’t feel the outline

Pressed into my denim.

Mindlessly wandering my room

Searching every nook and cranny.

Retracing my steps

Until I find you.

Exactly where you stay

Day in and day out.

I need you in most aspects of my life

If I want to see the world,

If I want to fish,

If I want anything.

My happiness comes from you

And if I ever get pulled over

I can count on you

To be there when I need it.

I had to write an ode to something important in my life so I chose to write about my wallet.
