Breathe in as you feel your lungs expanding
chest opening
mind falling into a deep area of wonder and curiosity
Remembering the last time you were looking into the mirror and smiled
laughing at the funny faces
YOU
were making,
because you liked the way it made you feel
liked the way your eyes made a squinting gesture, as you stretched your mouth wide
Remembering the last time you walked into that math classroom and you weren’t scared
weren’t nervous
weren’t frightened
because you knew the teacher felt your presence
Remembering the last time you looked at HIM, smiled a little smile
And he rolled his eyes
Because you were never “there” for him
You never
“got it”
Breathe Out
Feel your lungs collapsing
Chest breaking down
Spine shriveling
Mind closing itself off from the world
Trying to imagine what it would have been like if she just said “okay”
Saying “okay” to the fact that you didn’t want it anymore
You knew you were filled up to the top of your glass
And the one word “okay” would have stopped it from her mouth of a rushing ocean
To break your glass along with everything else.

Breathe In
Breathe Out,
You will always be loved
You will always be worth every bit of my time
You will always be special
You, one in a million,
Billion
You will always matter to me, and the rest of us

Breathe In,
Breathe Out.
