Little Lonely Lies

May 20, 2018

When we were all young

And our songs of life were yet to be sung

Our parents told us to never lie

for it was the worst sin leaving you with guilt until you die

But as time slips away

as well as the truth day by day

your words become fiction

and it all becomes an addiction

If the truth is too hard

And catches us off guard

We tell a fib, so ity bitty

But at the cost of our integrity

Whether colossal or petite

Lies don't need to compete

Because they are all the same

So there's no need for a game

“That, was my last chip”

“I promise not to double dip”

“I'll do it eventually”

“that wasn't intentionally”

“I’m okay”

“I'm not gay”

“I love you”

“I love you too”

Americans lie at least once a day

and 56% of the time they think they will get away

But most people don't lie as a last resort

They do so simply for comfort

The person you lie to the majority

Is your biggest authority

Your biggest critic, your biggest maven

and as lying to them becomes usual, there's no saving

The person you lie to the most is you

And as one untruth turns to two

and three turns to four

you can't help but telling more

You are the easiest person you can lie to

But once you start there is no rescue

The number 1 thing Americans lie to themselves about is their identity

And if you live your life a lie you are never your true entity

Who you are can not be parleyed

you need to be you in order to succeed

If others don't agree with who you are

Be true to yourself

And you will reach the highest shelf

Telling the truth has proven to help your health

and to be the key to eternal wealth

Lying is a metaphorical knife

So the truth can save a life

Don't live your life as a wannabe

Because honestly is the best policy
