Hallways
I see it,
You see it,
Hurt in every hallway
Pain felt every day
The discrimination is strong
Yet we all know it’s wrong
It’s not just their race
Not just the structure of their face
It’s about how we see people
About how we feel about people
The way they look away
Because he cuts himself every day
They way they turn their back
Because they hear she’s on crack
We never know how they feel
Because their faces won’t reveal
The pain they feel every day
You see it
I see it
And it’s not ok.
The hallway is a two way street
Eyes cast down, full of defeat
No eye contact
No one to meet her gaze
She hears her name,
But her eyes don’t raise
She knows her flaws
She knows her faults
She sees him-- her heart halts
She has done him wrong
And can’t take it back
But one glance at him
Gives her a heart attack
I need make up
I need a boyfriend
I need to be a d cup
I need to press send
I need straight hair
I don’t need to care
When they’re awake they think this stuff
But when they’re asleep, themselves are enough
No girl is content in the world of self hate
After all it only matters what’s their rate

These are three poems I have written about school, which portray the thoughts of different people in the hallway.
