Double Life
6:15 am I'm waking up realizing I need to shower.
I think about the hours of sleep I could have gotten if I had went to bed at 9:00.
Get dressed, put on makeup, grab all school supplies, grab lunch and we are out the door.
Today is game day, did I put my glove in my bag?
We are home or away, is today white jersey day?
I need to grab the black tee for the game today.
Go to first hour, to learn about our government.
Go to second hour to learn how to read and write.
Go to gold block to waste the time in your day.
Go to third hour to learn radical equations, and analyze graphs that we are told we will need one day.
Go to fourth hour to run around the track and beam each other with dodgeballs all day.
I wonder who is pitching today.
We are going to travel to Bradford high school for the game.
We need to get our uniforms on and equipment on the bus by 2:45 for the departure of the day.
Make sure I have all assignments turned in, and ready for my classes.
Read each book, do every paper, and solve every problem.
Make sure you do your best work, so you can be done with everything for the day.
Turn into game mode, load the bus with our equipment.
Count to make sure we have everyone.
Plug your headphones in and watch out the window.
Zone into the game and see it yourself.
Remember you have to help with your group project, its due tomorrow.
Help your brother out with his homework, once you get home at eight.
Do all your chores and clean yourself up from the day.
Play your own game, don’t let anybody else take control.
Play your hardest and best every time, because you never know when it will be the last.
Get the win together with the team, looking back and realizing that today was a great day.
Take a step back, and slow yourself down.
Pay attention to those around you.
Don’t get caught up in only the life between sports and school.
Balance your time and days, take a step back.
You are a student athlete, you have many standards to meet.
Realize you are one person, and not all can be accomplished in one day.
You live a double life, right now it seems like hell.
You have endless homework, practice and life gets in the way.
Give yourself more time, just be all that you can be.
Because at the end of the day, I'll still be proud of me.
