Pink Nerves
August brought school and simmering heat,
Books and notes and paper and ink,
Friday night lights, hot cheeks tinged pink,
My senior year has come, so bittersweet.
Caps and gowns and tassels and stoles,
Skipping classes for naps and an extra long lunch,
Scholarship essays and the senior brunch,
All while at the top of the totem pole.
Crying and snapping from all of the stress,
Our teachers prepare us for AP tests,
Pink streaks from tears wetting our cheeks,
Oh crud-we only have two more weeks!
Making up hours from days that we skipped,
If my mom knew that, she would have flipped,
Finals are creeping up out of nowhere,
Failing right now would be a huge nightmare.
Across the stage all of us walk,
What if we trip? Will everyone gawk?
Now I can’t help to think,
Of the blush if that happens,
how my face will turn bright pink.
