Late Nights
Silence
Late at night, when only the heater can be heard.
No shouts from brothers.
No barks from a dog.
No dishes clanking.
No commercials on TV.
Only the sound of thoughts in my head.
And people.
Whether they’re
Judgmental,
Loud,
Or Annoying.
Whether they’re
Kind,
Funny,
Or Quiet.
I’m always more comfortable
Alone.
No parents to lecture me about my homework.
No Conversations that make me uncomfortable.
No telling bad jokes to fit in.
No social anxiety.
Only me and my thoughts.

I was inspired to write this piece because I realized how comforting it was when I was the only one awake late at night. Going to school and having to act normal is just exhausting to me, and even talking to my family just wears me out. It's always really noisy in my house as well, so it's nice for things to be quiet and for me to be alone for once.
